The Bhuvan, ISRO’s mapping application is now revamped. National Remote Sensing Centre of ISRO, Hyderabad has revamped its Geoportal Bhuvan (www.bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in) providing enhanced user experience. The Bhuvan team have now removed the login process to access the application. You will be taken directly to the 3D globe page wherein you can explore all the Bhuvan functionality. Bhuvan is poised with a vision to be a one-stop versatile Indian Earth Observation visualization system evincing the Indian imaging capabilities. Bhuvan visualization portal is now serving the global data from IRS P6 (Resourcesat-1)-AWiFS data. Mr M K Narayanan told The Times that his office and other government departments were targeted on December 15. A ‘Trojan’ virus was embedded in an e-mail PDF attachment. The virus was detected and officials were told not to log on until it was eliminated. This was not the first instance of an attempt to hack into India’s computers. People seem to be fairly sure it was the Chinese. China has denied any role in the hacking attacks. Read full story »
TRAI proposes to retain the current 10-digit format for mobile numbers, and open up 2 to 7 series for mobile numbers. With this plan, mobile phone numbers will remain the same, and existing landline numbers will be migrated to 10-digits across the country. Currently, over 90% of the mobile numbers begin with 9 and the rest with 8. TRAI proposal will open up all levels except numbers beginning with the digit ‘1’, which will be reserve for emergency services, toll free numbers and for government-related issues. Read full story »
Google Transliteration Input Method Editor (IME) allows users to enter text in one of the supported languages into any input window using a roman keyboard, without needing any internet connection. The IME is currently available for 14 different languages including Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. The IME assists you with dictionary based word completions for prefixes. Users can type a word the way it sounds using Latin characters and Google Transliteration IME will convert the word to its native script Unicode. Read full story »
The Northern Railway had launched the scheme on December 12 sending SMS to about 10 lakh people each day covering areas with high density of unmanned level crossings. The railways transmit four types of SMS currently. The messages are designed to bring about attitudinal changes. They either persuade people to change for the better or warn them of the consequences.
