There are situations when you would like to install apps in your Android phone from sources other than Android Market. Examples of such third-party Android app stores are AndAppStore, SlideMe, Handango, and GetJar and game developers such as Gameloft. If you are an Android app developer, you may want to do the testing before moving it to the Android market.
But most Android devices don’t allow the installation of apps from “unknown sources.” In order to allow installation of Android apps from ‘unknown sources” or third party developers, follow the steps given below and enable the settings.
- Go to the phone’s Settings menu. This can usually found by hitting the menu button from the home screen.
- Tap the option for Applications. You should see an option that says “Unknown sources.”
- Tick the check box next to it, then click OK on the resulting popup alert.
- You may download the Android Package APK files from the unknown source, and launch the APK file yourself.
