Close tabs and windows
- Tabs: Click the x icon on the tab, or use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+W (Windows and Linux) and ⌘-W (Mac) to close a tab.
- Windows: Click the x icon in the corner of the window, or use the keyboard shortcuts Alt+F4 (Windows and Linux) and ⌘-Shift-Y(Mac) to close a window. Closing the last tab in a window also automatically closes the window.

If you accidentally close a tab or window, easily recover it on the New Tab page.
Force a webpage or application to close
- Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.
- Select Tools.
- Select Task manager.
- Select the webpage you’d like to close.
- Click End process.
You can also use the keyboard shortcut Shift+Esc (Windows and Linux) to open the Task Manager. Mac users: If you don’t see the wrench icon, open the Task Manager by going to View > Developer > Task Manager on the menu bar at the top of your screen.
Clicking End process places an “Aw, Snap!” message in the affected tab and tabs opened by that tab.[source]
