Google Sites – The Intranet Collaboration Tool

Google released Google Sites, which allow your team to build websites with documents, photos, presentations and more. This service is now available within Google Apps accounts. You can sign op for a Google Apps account or log-in and add Sites from Add more services link.

Creating a site together is very easy. You have full control over who has access – just you, your team, or your whole organization. You can also publish Sites to the public. You can designate owners, viewers and collaborators for your sites.

You can create company intranet, team projects, employee profile, employee clubs, etc..using Sites. Team members can work together on a Site to add file attachments, information from other Google applications (like Google Docs, Google Calendar, YouTube and Picasa), and new free-form content. Search across your Google Sites pages and content using powerful Google search technology.

No HTML knowledge is required for creating a Google Site. You can customize it to give your own look and feel. Google provides with various templates to create web page, announcements, file cabinet, dashboard and list. You can upload files and attachments up to 10MB in size. Each Google Apps account receives at least 10GB of storage in Google Sites.

I have been waiting for this functionality for long time to work in collaboration with team members across the world. Now Google Apps has email, calendar, documents and chat enabling working as a team in the flat world.  🙂
