To tackle the software piracy problem, Microsoft offers free upgrades to legitimate versions of Windows 10 to all Windows users, regardless of whether they are running genuine copies of the software. This will be done for free to all qualified PCs running Windows 7 or later.
Terry Myerson of Microsoft’s operating systems unit announced this plan in a technology conference in China. “We are upgrading all qualified PCs, genuine and non-genuine, to Windows 10,” he said in a telephone interview with Reuters. It is not sure what exactly does the term ‘qualified’ means.
It is not clear that whether this free-upgrade is promised only for China or is it applicable worldwide. Let us hope that this will be applicable to India too, the next big customerbase of Microsoft. More updates awaited.
Microsoft Windows 10 is expected by mid of this year.
