Sol is a new solar powered laptop, released by WeWi Telecommunications Inc., based in Canada. It is designed for use in military & education and for developing nations where access to reliable sources of electricity is comparatively less.
WeWi says that Sol can run directly off solar energy, when the solar panels are unfolded. Users can charge the inbuilt battery in under 2 hours, while not in use. The battery can last about 8-10 hours.
The solar powered device comes in two configurations viz, a ‘submersible’ version and the a non-submersible SOL Marine. Both devices share similar specifications.
[advt]The device homes a 13.3″ LCD Screen with 1366×768 pixels screen resolution. It is powered by an Intel Atom D2500 1.86 GHz Dual Core processor with Intel 945GSE + ICH7M chipset.
The device sports Seagate 2.5” SATA HDD with storage capacity of 320GB and a 2GB DDR3 SDRAM. A 4GB RAM model is also available. The graphics section is handled by the inbuilt Intel GMA3600 Graphics.
The battery can long 8 – 10 hours. The operating system used is Ubuntu version 12.10. It also features a 3 MP webcam, USB 2.0, Audio, HDMI, Ethernet and SD Card ports. The laptop also offer 3G, 4G World/multimode LTE, inbuilt WiFi, GPS & Bluetooth in connectivity options.
