New Yahoo Mail Beta provides you Free SMS to any mobile phones of selected countries around the world. For this, you need to have a free yahoo mail account and phone numbers to which you need to send the SMS.
This service is now available in India, United States, Canada, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Yahoo users from these countries can send free sms to mobile phones of Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, United States and Vietnam.
How To Send SMS through Yahoo! Mail ?
Login to your New Yahoo Mail Beta (Free sms feature is not available on your classic yahoo mail).
Log into Yahoo Chat.
Select SMS option from the menu below your New Yahoo Mail Beta inbox.
If you are using this service for the first time Yahoo will ask us to Select your Country (Country we selected can be later changed by clicking options under help on the left top).
Enter the mobile number to which you need to send SMS (You need not specify the country code, If you are sending SMS to a mobile phone in your home country)

Type your message in the text box given.
Press Enter key on the keyboard.
You will get the reply sent by the receiver in the same window you used to send the message.
It is free upto 3 messages. But for receiving the fourth message sms, receiver needs to send a reply to any of the previous messages. The reply message sent by the receiver will be charged Rs.3.
When the Yahoo user sends the first message Yahoo will send a message to the prospective receiver saying “A Yahoo! user is trying to SMS you. When it arrives, select ‘Reply’ to continue the conversation. For more info, visit in.mobile.yahoo.com/new.pc”
Then the receiver will get next 3 messages from the sender and when the sender tries to send a 4th message Yahoo will send a message to the receiver saying “To continue using the Yahoo! SMS service you need to OPT-IN by replying to this or any previous Yahoo! SMS”
If the receiver sends a reply to any of the messages sent through Yahoo! SMS service he/she will be charge Rs.3/message.
