MIPS Technologies announced the availability of the world’s first 7-inch tablet running on the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It comes with Ingenic’s JZ4770 single-core 1GHz XBurst CPU, priced under $100 .
Android 4.0 tablet with multitouch screen will support Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, USB 2.0, HDMI 1.3 and microSD. The tablet will also offer support for 3D graphics with the Vivante GC860 GPU, 1080p video decoding and dual front/rear cameras. The company also plans to launch the tablet in 8 and 9-inch versions.
MIPS Technologies is a China-based CPU provider for mobile multimedia applications. Currently, the tablet is available in China and online through Ainol Electronics Co Ltd. It will be available in the US and other geographies in the coming months under brands from companies including Leader International Inc and OMG Electronics Ltd.
According to Andy Rubin, senior vice president of mobile at Google,
