Google now introduced the Google SMS beta in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Google SMS is already present in other countries but India is the first Asian country to have this service.
Indian mobile users can now get local information like movie timings, restaurants, local hospitals and taxi services on their handsets just by sending a text message (SMS) to the short code, which is (SMS) 54664 [5GOOG] from their mobile phones.
Google has tied-up with five operators Reliance, Bharti Airtel, BSNL, BPL and Aircel for offering the service. Google SMS is a premium SMS service; the users would be charged between 80 paise and Rs 3 per SMS depending on the operator. Incoming messages from Google are not charged.
