Script Converter is a Google Labs product that allows the user to read a web page in a script of their choice. For example, if the user can understand spoken Malayalam, but cannot read the script, they will be able to view Malayalam web pages in English (Roman) script.
This application does not translate any content, instead it just transform the words on the page to its phonetic equivalent in the desired script.
The application also support the conversion from non-Unicode encoding to Unicode, so that users can view pages without installing the custom font otherwise needed. Users will still need Unicode fonts.
Try it out yourself. To start browsing a website, visit the Script Converter website, type the url in the text area, choose your preferred script and press convert.
The web app currently supports 17 languages including Malayalam, Sanskrit, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, English, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi and Urdu.
The application supports a variety of fonts used in several popular sites. If the conversion for your favorite site is not working, you may please send an email to [email protected] for support.
Every link you click on a converted page will itself be converted to your script, which makes browing through the converted website easier. This will allow you to seamlessly continue your browsing session in the script of your choice.
And if you just want to convert some text only you can paste your text in the text area of the converter website and get it converted in to your choice of language.
