Call 139 Local Number for Indian Railway Enquiry

Yesterday I saw an advertisement in the Hindu newspaper about the latest facilities in railway enquiry number 139. Calls to 139 from any village or town is now a Local Call. No STD required from anywhere in India. 139 is the one nationwide number for all the rail passenger enquiry. The basic services include PNR Enquiry, current train running position, accommodation availability and fare enquiry. In addition to Hindi and English, these services are available in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Bangala, Oriya and Assamese in respective regions.

Service available on MTNL, BSNL, Dolphin, Garuda, Cellone, Idea, Vodafone and Spice phones. Indian Railway is working on making the service available on other telecom service providers soon. Railway is also planning to come up with premium enquiry services in a new number. The premium service will include SMS, call back and fax facility.

An Easy Dial service is available at present in Delhi and Mumbai. Just dial 139 xxxxxxxxxx (10 digit PNR number) and 139 xxxx (4 digit train number) to get the ticket and train status immediately without going through the long process.

  3. I want to take my pet with me so I called up 139 but no option to talk to a customer care representative. Moreover the call charged me Rs 1.2 per minute. Its written Toll Free everywhere but its not.

  4. 139 is a useless and hopeless service. I called this morning at 3.50 AM to enquire the status of train num 02851 with expected arrival time of 04.40 AM. The train number was not found and was told to wait for a customer service executive. I was waiting for an executive to answer but there was no response. My phone showed me a charge of Rs.8.00 and had to disconnect the call. I went all the way to the station(about 2 kms away) to get the status and was told the train is running late by 4 hours. Is this the way the railways answer the query of the customers/passengers? It needs a lot of improvement.

    • Indian Railway is thirdclass service provider. Most stations including Delhi are Thirdclass stations. Food of Indian Railway should offered to Rail Minister and Prime Minister for one month regularly. I also used 139 service, only thirdclass attitude. PUBLICITY STUNTS ARE RUNNING THIS COUNTRY.

  7. cant solve all the question but if you want to talk to someone on 139 go to the section for booking your ticket through cashcard on telephone I think it’s option no5 there you will find one person jiski tum thodi si tang khichoge to wo shyad tumhare question ka answer dededede

  8. One of the worst services. Idea is good but the implementation is worst.
    I was in hurry and i need to get the schduled departure of a train as i heard that the train in running around 8 hrs late.
    I called up to 139 and followed the instructions properly,
    After some time i got a response “Apke dwara maangi gayi jaankari abhi uplabdh nahin hai”(the information you require is currently unavailable).
    6 Rs. got deducted from my balance. and still i was helpless.
    This was really annoying and one of the worst experience.
    So i approached to railway station and enquired there manually.

  9. I called 139 & would like to talk to the representative,but i couldn’t.
    Is there any number so that one can talk to some representative on issues not present in the recorded machine reply available at 139

  10. Hi, I am not getting correct answer to my question on 139. My question was ‘I have made reservation from hyderabad to delhi on 4 the december. but it is waiting list of 10. so i am confused whether it will confirm or not. if not, will i get RAC seat ?

    3E fare is 490/-
    3A fare is 567/-.
    Not able to find difference in type of seat.

  13. On 139, tere are lot of difficulties regarding trains enquiry:-
    1- Its time taken. One can lose treir train…. while enquiring on 139.
    2- Its too costly, even then its not sure to get correct enq.
    3- Releted officers are oftenly unavailable.
    4- There is no other option to get train enq. except 139, whose specialities are abvecited.
    1- Any concerning Railway official, can give some solution for the same.
    2- They have an advice or qus who has said to people to travel by train.

  14. i think 139 no is not at all useful, you cant talk to the officials and the computerised voice is cracky . you cant understan what they are speaking

  16. I was to travel by 1077 Jhelum Express today 20 Mar and i called 139 4-5 times between 1800 hrs and 2100 hrs. I wa sinitially told the train is running 30 mins late then at 2000hrs tols that the train is running two hrs 15 mins late. finally i was told at 2100hrs that the train is 29 min late and will depart at 2135hrs. On rushing to the station i was told the train left at 2120 hrs. Who the hell is responsible for this harassment to passengers that too when u travel with wife and a infant child.

  17. its so bad as bsnl is also charging @ 1.20/minute. Is railway or indian government will see in this matter

    Dialing 139 from anywhere India , you will reach Indian railway Enquiry No doubt.
    But if you want to talk with Customer care executive, then not sure how much time it will take.. God Knows…

    This requires improvement…. Or the process requires to know the value of time & money.

I am not aware abount certain charges being deducted by bsnl.showing last call charges without dialing of call to anyone .yesterday neither sms was sent not call was dialled but there was message on mobile last call cost 0.10only .in what circumstances it is being deducted ,pl.let us know. thanks for kind cooperation.

    I am israr, when browsing the railway site its not properley open on accomodation avaliable tab. given sever Error, so plz try remove this type of problem.
