BSNL India Offers Free Dial-Up Internet

BSNL has made dial-up Internet access free for all of its landline customers. BSNL started the scheme since September 1st, but did not made it a news. The free scheme will run upto 31st of October. There are indications that it will be extended.

Remember, you pay local call charges for the duration of the surfing.

There is no registration required to use this service. Just plugin the telephone jack into your computer, and setup a dialup connection using thw wizard. Your telephone number with STD code is the username (do not put a zero before the STD code) and password is your telephone number without STD code. BSNL’s all-India dial-up number is 172222. You get speed comparable to the standard dial-up modem speed is 56 kbps. [hindu]

  1. I have BSNL Broadband at home, Asianet Cable Broadband at office, and a Reliance Netconnect Wireless USB as backup. Still there were times when all three were out and I had to use BSNL dialup for emergency! Now I am planning to take BSNL EVDO connection.
