Kerala government planning to provide mobile phones and SIM cards to all policemen of the state police free of charge. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is providing the connections to about 40,000 policemen. Currently only sub-inspector and above officers have this facility.
The Police department is also computerising crime records in all 436 police stations in the state using free software. broadband Internet connections will be provided to all police stations. Video-conferencing facilities between courts and jails would also be expanded.

All landline numbers and mobile numbers of the police force would be brought under a single network. Free calls would be allowed from each phone to one mobile and one landline phone number outside the network. The monthly charge for each connection would be Rs.100.
