MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited) also now provides Mobile TV for its subscribers. The subscribers of MTNL Delhi with the Unlimited Plan and MTNL GPRS-enabled handsets will now be able to watch live television on their handsets. The commercial launch of the service is slated for April 2008. The subscribers will be able to watch seven TV channels on their GPRS-enabled mobile handsets until the commercial launch.
Five of the seven TV channels are free channels; users will have to pay a minimum of Rs 50 per month to access these free channles on their mobile handsets. Users have to pay for each of the other channels. Handsets of the user must support the Symbian operating system and a minimum of 2 MB phone memory with Real One player to enjoy the service. MTNL has about 15 lakh users in Delhi out of which 25,000 use GPRS in their mobile phones.
