TuneIn Radio Internet Radio Mobile App – Add FM Tuner to Your Phone

TuneIn Radio (formerly RadioTime, Inc.), a developer of apps for finding and listening to radio on connected devices, announced a new version of its Windows Phone 7 product which allows users to opt-in to access a device’s FM tuner. Doing so enables them to preserve battery life, decrease data costs and access local programs that are not available on stations’ Internet streams.

The TuneIn Radio app for Windows Phone allows the user to choose to use the device’s FM tuner when the terrestrial radio signal is stronger or blocked by broadcaster restriction. The FM tuner permits Windows Phone users to listen to any local FM station, not just those with compatible Internet streams. Integrated FM Tuners allow Windows Phone users to connect with local content at lower consumer cost, both in data charges and device use.

TuneIn Radio features a directory of more than 50,000 AM/FM and Internet-only radio stations and podcasts airing in 140 countries and broadcasting in more than 100 different languages, the largest selection of any radio app. TuneIn’s unique search technology enables users to search for music and programs by the names of artists or on-air personalities, specific songs, teams, station call letters and genre. Other features include using the phone’s GPS and WiFi capabilities to automatically detect local stations and display what’s on-the-air in real-time.

“As the leading global radio app, our robust technology delivers global live station and song information, games and programs, Twitter feeds, recommendations for other stations and programs, and on-demand content,” said Bill Moore, CEO and Founder of TuneIn. “We are committed to leveraging any technology our device partners incorporate in their devices. Microsoft’s addition of the FM Tuner allows the user experience the choice of exploring local content while reducing demand on the device itself. TuneIn Radio is committed to being at the forefront of radio technology to deliver a variety of local, national and worldwide program choices to our users.” [advt]

“TuneIn Radio has always been out in front on emerging services for the radio industry,” said Gregg Lindahl, SVP, Digital & Strategy, Cox Media Group. “They have done some heavy lifting with their brilliant app and online guide.”
