ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has approved the creation of the new .Tel top level domain.
The purpose of .Tel is to provide individuals and businesses a text-based naming and navigation structure for the Internet communications space: any individual or business will be able to initiate communication or access services simply by inputting yourname.tel or companyname.tel on their Internet-enabled communications device.
The .Tel Domain names will be administered by Telnic. A .Tel address would also allow someone to “publish and control, in real time, how they can be reached,” according to Telnic.
