Synergy + – Navigate Multiple Computer Systems Using Single Mouse

Synergy + is free software that enables you to navigate between multiple computer systems using a single mouse. Each system has its own screen, and once Synergy is installed and configured correctly, you can simply move your mouse to the edge of one screen and watch it seamlessly jump to another screen, which is a completely different computer.

It avoids the need to press a button or move a dial on a KVM switch and reduces the amount of hardware needed to run several computers. One computer must have a keyboard and mouse connected and this can then be shared with others – this is a simple matter of using the program to enable the sharing feature and then on other computer you can connect to the relevant host name to make use of the hardware.

[]You can simply move your mouse off the edge of your main screen to enter the screen of a secondary computer to the left or right of you. While your mouse remains on the other PCs desktop you can control it with your main mouse and keyboard, and to return control to your main computer, simply move the mouse back. Synergy allows you to configure multiple computers, it needs to be installed on each of the computers to be controlled. The initial configuration can be a little confusing, and the docs are mostly aimed at technical users. Basically you have to tell the program what to do when the mouse passes the designated edge of your screen, and also how to get back on your main screen.

The stable version of Synergy+ is available for Windows, but there are also beta versions available for Mac and Linux. These are great tools if you work in a multi-platform environment and do not want to clutter up your desk with several keyboard and mouse sets.
