Have you seen Windows Live Local? It provides map and driving directions for Indian cities too. The much awaited functionality! As you know, in India most of the roads are not named, other than the numbered National Highways. This is the head ache to be solved for better mapping service.
Windows Live Local provides some guidance on travelling between big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, etc.. But it fails miserably for local city driving directions.
Here is part of driving directions from Thiruvananthapuram to New Delhi.
1 Turn LEFT (East) onto Local road(s) (0.4 mi)
2 Turn LEFT (North) onto Local road(s) (37.7 mi)
3 Turn RIGHT (East) onto Local road(s) (0.3 mi)
4 Turn LEFT (North) onto Local road(s) (12 mi)
5 Bear LEFT (North-West) onto Local road(s) (34.7 mi)
6 Bear LEFT (North) onto 49 (36.2 mi)
7 Keep STRAIGHT onto 17 (50.9 mi)
Without having the proper road names in place it is difficult to build a robust system. You will only see Local Roads in the driving directions.
Click on the links below for the Windows Live Local Directions from Thiruvananthapuram to Attingal, Kazhakuttam to Kanyakumari, Thiruvananthapuram to Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram to Colombo, Sri Lanka. The last one is interesting, which has a ferry from Rameshwaram (India) to Talaimannar (Sri Lanka)!
