AOL recently announced yet another mobile platform called AOL Open Mobile Platform, which will be made available to developers in the coming months. This new open source platform will allow developers to build and distribute rich applications and content across all major mobile device platforms and operating systems including Java, Linux, RIM, BREW, Symbian, and Windows Mobile.
The platform consists of three parts: an XML-based scripting language, a device client, and an application server. The platform is designed to plug-in easily with third-party APIs, and other AOL products including AIM, AOL Mail, AOL Video, MapQuest, Userplane, Truveo, and Winamp. The developers will be able to monetize their mobile applications by utilizing AOL advertising services.
