The city of San Francisco is implementing a USD 23 million program “SFPark” to convert 6000 metered public parking spaces into smart spots.
These parking spaces are fitted with battery-powered sensors, manufactured by Streetline Industries. The sensors will allow drivers to find available spaces over a city-wide wi-fi network. Spots availability information will be available on drivers’ cell phones as well as on the dynamic street sign displays.
Drivers can simply add more time to the meter using this system without going back to the parking space to put quarters in the meter!
