BSNL EVDO card provides customers with access the High speed wireless broadband service across India. Users can access the Internet with surfing speed of up to 144 kbps with the BSNL NIC (Network Interface Card) and up to 2.4 Mbps with the EVDO (Evolution-Data Optimized) card.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has a promotional offer on its CDMA Data Services, the NIC and EVDO cards which costs Rs. 2,500 and Rs 3,500 respectively will be sold at Rs.1,680 and Rs. 2,100 respectively for limited period. Offer valid till stock lasts or up to 9th September 2009, whichever is earlier. [source]
BSNL currently offers unlimited data access to both NIC and EVDO card users for a fixed monthly rental of Rs. 250 and Rs 550 respectively. However from July 1, 2009 the monthly charges will be revised to Rs. 350 and Rs. 600 respectively.
BSNL has also enabled roaming facility on its CDMA Data Services. The EVDO was launched unofficially back in September 2007 by BSNL and now, after the establishing better EVDO network.
The official name of EVDO, defined by the Telecommunication Industry Association, is “CDMA2000, High Rate Packet Data Air Interface”. It is one of two major Third Generation (3G) wireless standards.
Check with your local BSNL Customer service and BSNL franchisee to find out if EVDO broadband is available in your city. I have been using the service for sometime and very happy with the performance.

my friend said to me ‘ you remove the EVDO antena from bsnl usb device. and attach yogi antena to bsnl usb device. you get high speed net connection.’

I am not sure if what i am suggestion here has been discussed on this forum as I have personally not seen it. But hope it helps those of you using BSNL EVDO in Vista. My understanding of this tweek is that it will work with other providers such as Tata and Reliance that also provide EVDO / CDMA based services but do not have either so cannot comment on this.
Have just signed on to this forum but have been tracking many threads under the BSNL EVDO forum.
I have been using BSNL EVDO over the last 12 months cause I thought it was a great value at Rs 500 / month for unlimited internet. Initially the speed was great and I was downloading at 100-150kbps in bursts which was better than my Airtel BB 512kbps connection.
However in a couple of months the speed dropped drastically to max 10kbps max when downloading. I am assuming this was on account of a bunch of users that got signed up after me. I tried in vain looking for tweeks to spped up the connection.
I tried everything: DrTCP tool, Windows vista KB tweek, updated drivers from ZTE website, Custom drivers.. Nothing.. Absolutely nothing seemed to work to increase the speed.
I was about to give up when i accidentally stumbled upon a tweek while driving on the highway where i was getting only 1x signal but am absolutely amazed at the speed.
I found a website ::. Kitz – Vista TCP tweaks .:: which addressed the “Receive Window Auto-Tuning” feature in Vista being turned off. Disabling (or setting to normal) the Auto tune feature seems to have improved the perfomance drastically.
It was simple as tying the following command while running CMD as Administrator.
Click Start -> All programs -> Accessories
Right Click on Command Propmt and click “Run as Administrator”
Authenticate and then type the following line.
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable
To verify the status of Receive Window Auto-Tuning you have to type the following line in cmd
netsh interface tcp show global
My system was set to “highlyrestricted” before i disabled the feature.
I tried it and was pleasantly surprised. Even without the EVDO signal, the ZTE software was showing 1x signal, I was downloading a movie at 200kbps (20kBps). Again this was on the highway with the car moving at 100kmph.
Turning off the TCP recieve window autotuning feature, it feels like the EVDO finally responds and very quickly at that. I used to have max 2 minutes of great speeeds and then the connection would almost go dead on me. Now it works great even after a couple of hours.
It will be great if other users in Bangalore and rest of India could try this and let me know if it works for them. I dont understand the minute technical details of why it worked for me. SO will leave it to one of the experts.

Wirelessbroadband is a very good thing. but every company has wireless broadbands like bsnl, tata, reliance etc……
we want to buy the usb data card(Modem) 3000rs+. ok we dont care about the price of purchasing the modem. but they need to improve the performance of the wireless broadban. bcoz for 499rs (wired broadband 2mbps-4mbps)) we get 1.5gb free & a night 2am-8am free downlaoding, some networks have 4 hrs free.but giving 700rs+ for wireless broadband we dont even get the speed and not getting free surfing too… its very very bad.

this is really very fast it gives a download speed of 70 kb/s or some times it give speed of 100 to 110kb/s………….i use it in ludhiana……..

do not buy this product at all,unless and untill u get full EVDO tower in ur area. non-constant speed & signal made bsnl evdo a flop internet service….upload speed completely sucks…….pinging problem…….much more prob…prob…prob….

The offer is for PCMCIA type of EVDO cards which r new,they r out of stock this is what they r saying…but the earlier EVDO and NIC cards are available for rs 3100/-+tax r for a rental 200/-rs/month….the tarrif also remains same i.e 550/- + 200/-……..this is as in Bangalore……
