Unique Identification Number (UID) Project – Launched

The state government will launch the UID (unique identification number) project. Enrollment for the UID (Adhaar) number will be carried out in 55 centres in the state. The project is being undertaken by the department of planning, statistics and evaluation, which has been appointed as the nodal authority for the central project in the state.

The government has engaged three private enrolment agencies – Mars Telecom System Pvt Ltd, Tera Software Ltd and Comet, to undertake the project. A joint working group, headed by a senior IAS officer, has been formed for the project’s implementation. The state has also formed a technical committee for the UID project in the North Goa and South Goa districts. The technical committees will be headed by the collector, who will also double up as a registrar for the UID project.

Anand Sherkhane, director, department of planning, statistics and evaluation said,

“We will inform the citizens about the entire programme, with details of the enrolment centres through the media. Each centre will have three to five work stations, and will be equipped with machinery required for citizens’ enrolment. Biometric scanning of fingerprints and the iris will be taken up for obtaining a 12-digit number”.
