Avidemux is free video editor software utility that is designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. It supports many file types, including AVI, DVD compatible MPEG files, MP4 and ASF, using a variety of codecs.
Avidemux is capable of non-linear video editing, applying visual effects (Filters) to video, and transcoding video into various formats. Avidemux can also insert audio streams into a video file (multiplexing or “muxing”) or extract audio streams from video files (demuxing).
It supports a non-project system, where you can simply create all your configurations and save the video directly without making a project file. Avidemux has built-in subtitle processing, both for Optical Character Recognition of DVD subtitles and for rendering hard subtitle.

This free tool enables you to cut off unwanted parts of your video clips. Use the A mark button or [ to set the start and use the B mark button or ] to set the end of the selection. Click save button to save the clip (file->save) or press delete (edit->delete) to delete the selection.
Avidemux supports Autosplit. Using File→AVI Muxer Options, you can specify a file size in megabytes. Each time that file size is reached and an intra frame is present, Avidemux will create a new file. You will end up with foo.avi.1, foo.avi.2 etc.
