The Indian personal computer (PC) market has increased 2.5% in the second quarter of 2011 to 2.5 million units, as per a report from Gartner. Worldwide PC shipments in Q2 have risen 2.3% to 85.2 million units, a little less than the Indian growth. The Indian PC market contributed 3% to the global PC market in Q2 of 2011.
All the major multinational PC vendors, with the exception of HP, experienced double-digit growth in PC shipments in the second quarter of 2011. Multinational brands contributed more than half of the total PC shipments in the second quarter of 2011 with shipments from Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo, the top 4 vendors, representing 50.4 percent of the market. Local vendor HCL accounted for 6.6 percent of PC shipments in the second quarter of 2011.
[advt]Acer dethroned HP from the No. 2 position in the market due to its strong commercial business. Dell, with 17 percent market share, held to its No.1 position, while Acer was in the No. 2 ranking with 12 percent market share.
