.CO Domain Name – What’s it? How to Register? When?

.Co is the country code domain for Colombia. It was originally managed by the University of The Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. Recently the government took the steps to open up the domain. .CO Internet was appointed as the manager for the .CO country level domain through a public procurement process in the Republic of Colombia that took place in early 2009.

The Launch has three core stages: The Global Sunrise period from April 26 – June 10, followed by the Landrush from June 21 to July 13. In the Landrush period, anyone interested in registering domain names of high commercial value. Any interest in matching domains will go to auction.

Once the Global Sunrise and Landrush processes are complete, .CO domains will become available to anyone in the world through participating registrars from July 20 onwards on a first come, first served basis. Registars such as GoDaddy and eNom offers .co domain names and other registrars can offer the domain through reseller agreements with the ten registrars.

To celebrate the upcoming launch of the .CO, the historic single letter domain name e.CO is up for auction. The bidding starts on June 7, 12 PM (EDT) and ends on June 10.
