Gartner reports that revenue from cellular services in India is projected to exceed USD 37 billion growing by 18 per cent annually till 2012.
The Indian mobile subscriber base is set to exceed 737 million connections by 2012, growing at the annual rate of 21 percent.
India will remain the world’s second largest wireless market after China in terms of mobile connections.
According to Gartner analysts the growth could be primarily attributed to the increasing focus on the rural market, local consumer durable and electronic companies entering the domestic mobile handset segment along with lower handset prices. [via financialexpress]
There have been reports earlier that landline telephone usage has been decreased by 25% in India and Europe.
