The Open Learning Initiative (OLI) is from Carnegie Mellon University, which offer innovative online courses to anyone who wants to learn or teach. They aim to create high-quality courses and contribute original research to improve learning and transform higher education.
OLI had been formed to support better learning and instruction for online courses and materials which are scientific and is high in quality. OLI aims to share their courses and materials openly and freely so that anyone can learn. Also it wants to develop a community for the continuous evaluation, improvement, and growth of courses and materials.
[advt]The students can get immediate feedback that helps students assess their own learning and study effectively. The educators can find several course materials and timely feedback about their students’ progress. The academic institutions are also benefited from OLI to improve their results by using data on student performance.
The course designers use the student activity data to find how the students use the course material and how they perform on learning activities and use this data to refine the courses. The learning science researchers affiliated with the Pittsburgh Science of Learning Center (PSLC) embeds experimental manipulations in OLI courses to test specific learning theories.
