POI Loader is free software for Windows that allows you to load custom points of interest into your unit. The input files can be downloaded from the internet or you can create your own. You can configure the unit to alert you when you are within a certain distance of a point or if you are driving over a certain speed near a point; perfect to warn you about upcoming schools zones and red light and speed cameras. The unit will also allow you to search for and navigate to the loaded points of interest.
[advt]Custom POIs are places on the map that supplement your existing map data. They can include new restaurants, campsites, shopping centers, or any other type of place. Custom POIs can also include stoplights or school zones that contain speed and proximity alert information. You can load them on your GPS device and receive a proximity alert when you are approaching the Custom POI and a speed alert when you are traveling too fast.
If there is speed and proximity alert information contained in your data files, POI Loader can automatically detect it by looking for key information. POI Loader checks the file name for valid speed information and keywords to indicate proximity alerts (for example, “redlight,” “camera,” or “safety”). If the speed or proximity information in the data file is missing or incomplete, POI Loader assumes the file is a regular POI file.
