Sony Ericsson announced the launch of its two new android smartphones – Xperia Ray and Xperia Active in India. Powered by Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) the devices include Sony’s high-end camera technology. The Xperia Ray is similar to its big brother Xperia Arc whereas Xperia Active is designed specifically for people who lead an active lifestyle and are on the go most of the time.
Xperia Ray, has a display screen of 3.3’’ and a sophisticated 8.1-megapixel camera (with Exmor R for mobile) which enables HD video recording. It also packs in reality display with Mobile BRAVIA engine. It is powered by a 1GHz processor and includes a front facing camera and a screen this is scratch resistant and offers a high resolution. In addition the phone comes with dedicated touch keys.
Xperia Active, is more compact and comes with a 3’’ screen and a 5-megapixel camera capable of HD video recording. It is dust and water proof, a boon for consumers who are frequently on the move. This phone has the unique wet finger tracking system which allows it to work perfectly even if the screen or the user’s finger is wet.
The phone comes with pre-loaded sports apps and an extensive gear kit, perfect for sports enthusiasts. With the built in GPS, barometer and compass, users can set their training route even before stepping out. The app iMapMyFitness allows users to monitor their training and fitness progress conveniently. Even heart and pulse rates can be monitored in real time on Xperia Active. The best feature of this phone – is that it can be kept under 1 m of water for 30 minutes.
Sony Ericsson has also integrated Facebook with Xperia and the app will now be available on all Xperia smartphones. With all these developments, Sony Ericsson looks ready to take on the smartphone market with a bang. It will be interesting to see how its latest offerings fare against those of competitors like Apple and Samsung.
