Oracle Sues Google over Android’s Java Technology

Oracle sued Google alleging patent and copyright infringement in the development of the Android smartphone software. Google’s Android operating system uses portions of Java technology.

Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems and their product Java earlier this year. Oracle claims that Google “knowingly, directly and repeatedly infringed Oracle’s Java-related intellectual property” in developing Android”.

It is estimated that about 200,000 smartphones and other devices based on the Android operating system are sold each day.
