Nokia is re-branding its suite of mobile apps and services from “Ovi” to simply “Nokia. The only difference to consumers is in the replacement of the word “Ovi” with “Nokia,” as per the report; theoretically Ovi Maps will become Nokia Maps. Meanwhile those with “Ovi” logos on their phones will see the rebranding through software updates instead.
The global marketing exercise will begin in July and is expected to complete by the end of 2012.
In January Nokia terminated its free music streaming subscription service in 27 countries; Ovi Music Unlimited will continue in a limited capacity, with 12-month subscriptions in China and India and six-month subscriptions in Brazil, Turkey, and South Africa.
