Idea Cellular launched 3G services in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. The Idea Cellular 3G services will be available in 200 towns by April-mid and will cover 4,000 town by end of FY12.
3G mobile communication systems offers video conferencing, mobile TV, video on demand, and high-speed Internet browsing on mobile handsets.
According to Idea Cellular, 10 per cent of the company’s over 86 million subscribers are using 3G enabled handsets and it expects that these users will be the early adopters of 3G services.
Idea Cellular has introduced time-based billing plan for 3G services, enabling users to avail high-end data services without worrying about the volume of usage.
Idea had won 3G spectrum in 11 circles – MP and Chattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh-East, UP-West, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. The company said it plans a progressive roll out of 3G services in these locations. Further, the company is also finalising long-term arrangements with select operators for service areas where Idea was not awarded 3G spectrum.
