India’s 3G Auction Getting Delayed for 6 Months Longer

3G telecom bidders may have to wait six months longer to start operations. The defence services have asked for 6 months of extra time for testing and security clearances before they vacate the spectrum (20 MHz for 3G and 25 MHz for 2G services) and shift to an optical fibre network that has been developed for them by BSNL. The telecom service provider has committed to handing over the new network by the end of October. This would extend the 3G auction to June 2010 instead of December this year. […]

National Optic Fibre Authority (Nofa) to have 66% of BSNL Employees

According to a proposal finalised by the department of telecommunications, about two-thirds of BSNL’s employees would be shifted to a newly created PSU, the National Optic Fibre Authority (Nofa).The proposed company Nofa would have the mandate to lay optic fibre across the country and then lease that network to telecom firms for providing broadband services. SMS Attack on BlackBerry Smartphones – Update Device Software

According to an advisory published by Research In Motion (RIM), BlackBerry mobile devices are open to attack due to a certificate notification flaw in the smartphone’s software. The problem lies in the BlackBerry Browser dialog box that alerts users if the URL they have clicked on does not match the domain they are being sent to.

Using this security flaw, a malicious user could create a web site that includes a certificate that is purposely altered using null (hidden) characters in the certificate’s Common Name (CN) field or otherwise manipulated to deceive a BlackBerry device user into believing they have connected to a trusted web site.
