Most of us are worried about how old we look like, isn’t it? We spend a lot of money in beauty parlours and buy a lot of cosmetic goods such as fairness creams. Microsoft has now made available a website which will automatically analyse the photographs and suggest the age and gender of persons appear in the photo. Have a try at How-Old.net.
To know how effective it is, I tried with my facebook profile picture, taken a year back when I was 39, and now the software says I am 43! OK, I accept it, and realised that I need to spend some money for hair dyeing! 😉
Then, I tried with the photographs of the famous Malayalam cinema actors – Mammootty and Mohanlal. To my dismay, the software says Mohanlal is 40 and Mammootty is just 37 – both of them are younger to me for the software! And the reality is that, Mohanlal is 54 years and Mammootty is 63! 🙂
Ok, now you may wonder, why is Microsoft into this silly website?
Microsoft Azure Machine Learning API
http://how-old.net is just the initial implementation of the Microsoft’s newly released Face detection API
You can upload a picture and have the Microsoft Face Detection API predict the age and gender of any faces recognized in that picture.
Face APIs on Microsoft Azure platform provide state-of-the-art algorithms to process face images, like face detection with gender and age prediction, recognition, alignment and other application level features.
You will get the detected faces with rectangles indicating the face positions and a series of face related attributes, include landmarks, pose, gender and age by giving an image.
The Face API also has the Face Verification feature, given two detected faces, you will get result indicates whether the two requested faces belong to the same person.

BTW, just check out this – how the tool compares the age of Prime Minister of India Sri. Narendra Modi and President of The United States Sri. Barak Obama! 🙂
