Online retailer Amazon had launched it’s Indian version in the month of June, 2013. Amazon India launched it’s dominant e-readers, Kindle Fire and Kindle Paperwhite, which will be made available by end of June 2013. Kindle fire HD and Kindle paperwhite are the world’s best sellers in the e-reader department.
Kindle fire HD [7 inch and 8.9 inch variants] will be available from 27th June, 2013, across India. It has a large collection of 1.9 million apps and games and more than 3.25 lakh e-books that are exclusive to Kindle store. The 7 inch version will cost 15,999 INR, while the 8.9 inch version will cost 21,999 INR. Kindle fire range will be available through leading retail chains such as Croma, Reliance digital and E-zone. Kindle fire HD is based on Android OS, which comes with a Dolby audio and front facing camera.
“Not only does Kindle Fire feature advanced hardware, it also offers a range of services. It has the combination of apps, the largest book selection, great e-mail service, browsing and top-rated customer service. We hope our customers in India will agree that Kindle Fire HD is the best tablet for a great price,” Amazon Kindle Vice President Dave Limp said in the press announcement.
Kindle Paperwhite is the fifth generation Kindle, which is the smallest and the lightest, and comes with a price of 5,999 rupees. It is readily available at the Amazon India Store, viz. Amazon.in. The Kindle Paperwhite will also be available in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi-plus-3G models, priced at 10,999 INR and 13,999 INR, respectively.
The new Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ support TTS [Text to Speech] function in those books where this feature is enabled. They also support Audible books for a rich narrated version of the book, and Immersion Reading which is like Text to Speech but with the rich narration of an Audible book.
