Google Search – Lost & Found People

If you are an Orkut user, you would have already found at least one of your long lost friend online. Google’s Orkut.com, named after its creator, Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten, is already helping many of us find our long lost school friends.

The Malayalam movie Minnaminni Koottam released recently, also talks about finding a friend’s whereabouts, who was hiding from the rest of the IT friend circle for the last 2 years, and reuniting with her lover. (Apparently, that movie is a big flop, don’t blame Orkut for that!)

Google Press page, I happened to see some interesting testimonials by Google users. See how much Google Search is helping people in their personal relationships too. Terry found her father online after 34 years, Laurie’s sister-in-law found her mother online after 34 years, Lesley found her brother in Brazil, Orlena reunited with her first love after 12 years, Ann could overcome heart attack and Rob found his stolen Guitar.

After 34 years of not knowing who my father was, I typed his name into Google.com and found a link that I thought might help me. I sent an email to the link’s website contact who then forwarded my information to my father. Two days later, I received a 3-page email from the man who I thought might be my father – it was indeed him. He had also been looking for me for years, but to no avail. I just wanted to say thank you, as I now have the opportunity to meet my father, introduce him to his new grandson, and meet my two half-brothers and a half-sister. Mainly, I just wanted to say thank you.” – Terry

“My sister-in-law found her mother after 34 years of searching by using Google. I just thought you’d like to know you helped us find our mom!” – Laurie

“My brother emigrated to Brazil 22 years ago. Correspondence started sketchy and then fizzled out altogether. The last time any of my family heard from him was over 6 years ago. I have tried searching for his name on the Internet with no success – until last Saturday when I tried Google for the first time. And there he was on a ten pin bowling league in Brazil! And his email address. I immediately contacted him and since then a flurry of email has gone back and forth – loads of news and photographs. Thank you Google for bringing my family back together.” – Lesley

“I have to tell you thank you! After 12 long years, I have been reunited with my first love via Google. If it were not for your company, I would not have found him so easily. He moved all the way to Germany, and I googled his name about a month ago. His boss has a website, and there is a tiny picture of him on it, with his name. If it was not for that, we would have never reconnected. Thank you over and over and over again! You guys rock!” – Orlena

“I just wanted to let you know that Google may well have saved my life. My sons and I were walking home from having eaten out. A half block from my house, I felt this pressure building in my chest. Immediately, I thought, ‘heart attack‘ and ran through how I’d been feeling that the day (I had been nauseated). My first thought was, ‘confirm suspicions,’ and immediately, upon arriving home, I went to Google and typed in ‘heart attack.’ I kept thinking, ‘you only have minutes…’ I found a site that listed symptoms. Indeed, I was having a heart attack. I was at the Albany fire station within minutes. Five baby aspirin later, and a few squirts of nitro and I was in the ambulance on my way to the hospital. The good news is, I have no residual damage. My heart is back to normal. Thank you for providing the Google search engine. I’m sure my recovery was complete because of the speed within which I was able to get help.” – Ann

“I’m a musician, and I’ve had my guitars for years. Recently, I had the misfortune of having my guitars stolen. The next morning, sad but not defeated, I began to hunt for them using Google. I was amazed to actually find them online! I alerted the police as soon as possible, and thanks to their help I’m going to get them back! Google helped me track them down. An amazing piece of technology and an wonderful story about the power of the Internet! Thank you Google for helping me save my guitars and getting them back!” – Rob
