FontForge Outline Font Editor – Create Your Own Fonts

FontForgeFontForge is an outline font editor that lets you create your own postscript, truetype, opentype, cid-keyed, multi-master, cff, svg and bitmap (bdf, FON, NFNT) fonts, or edit existing ones. Also lets you convert one format to another. FontForge has support for many macintosh font formats.

It also help you to convert fonts from one format to another, because of storing fonts in its native “spline font database” format (.sfd file name extension). FontForge uses FreeType for rendering fonts on screen.

To facilitate automated format conversions and other transformations, Fontforge implements two scripting languages one is its own legacy language and the other isĀ  Python.

Fontforge supports Adobe’s OpenType feature file specification (with its own extensions to the syntax). It also supports the unofficial Microsoft mathematical typesetting extensions.

FontForge can use Potrace or AutoTrace to auto trace bitmap images and import them into a font. Read more at Font Creation Using FontForge (PDF)
