Deleting Cookies In Internet Explorer

A cookie (web cookie, browser cookie, and HTTP cookie) is a piece of text stored on a user’s computer by their web browser. A cookie can be used for authentication, storing site preferences, shopping cart contents, the identifier for a server-based session, or anything else that can be accomplished through storing text data.

Cookies may be set by the server with or without an expiration date. Cookies without an expiration date exist until the browser terminates, while cookies with an expiration date may be stored by the browser until the expiration date passes. Users may also manually delete cookies in order to save space or to address privacy issues.

How to delete cookie files in Internet Explorer 8

  1. Exit Internet Explorer 8, and then exit any instances of Windows Explorer.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows Vista or Windows 7, click Start Start button, type inetcpl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    • In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
  3. On the General tab, click Delete under Browsing History in the Internet Properties dialog box.
  4. In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, click to clear all of the check boxes except for the Cookies check box, and then click Delete.

  1. Exit Internet Explorer 7, and then exit any instances of Windows Explorer.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows Vista, click Start Start button, type inetcpl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

  3. On the General tab, click Delete under Browsing History in the Internet Properties dialog box.

  5. In the Delete Cookies dialog box, click Yes.

  1. Exit Internet Explorer 6, and then exit any instances of Windows Explorer.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type inetcpl.cpl, and then press ENTER.
  3. On the General tab, click Delete Cookies in theTemporary Internet Files section of the Internet Properties dialog box.
